How the tax is worked out

  • Within a state, tax is split into CGST and SGST (UTGST for union territories).
  • Between states, the whole tax is charged as IGST.
  • Rates come from a GST rate library, and each line keeps its tax components, so your reports read them back exactly.
  • GSTIN and PAN numbers are checked as you enter them.

Reports from your books

  • GSTR-1 report
  • GSTR-3B report
  • Input tax credit (ITC) register
  • GST compliance report
  • Tax summary

Figures come from the tax accounts in your ledger, so they reconcile to your trial balance.

Good to know

  • Your country, currency, tax regime and financial-year start are fixed once you record your first transaction, so choose them carefully during setup.
  • Kanakku prepares the figures for your return. Check your filing obligations and rates with your accountant; this page is not tax advice.
