Tax packs

Choose your country. Kanakku does the rest.

Pick your country during setup and Kanakku applies that country's tax pack: currency, tax regime and rates, a matching chart of accounts, the financial-year start and your timezone.

How it works

1

Choose your country

One choice during company setup. India, the UK, the EU, the US, Australia and New Zealand each have a full pack.

2

Kanakku applies the pack

Currency, tax regime and rates, chart of accounts, financial-year start and timezone are set together.

3

Invoice and report

Tax is worked out on every line, posted to the right accounts, and read back in your tax reports.

Country, currency, tax regime and financial-year start are fixed once your first transaction is recorded.

Single-rate packs

These countries get their own currency, financial-year start and chart of accounts, with one tax rate that you configure applied per invoice line.

Every other country

If your country has no pack of its own, Kanakku uses a neutral one: a standard chart of accounts and a "No tax" rate, with USD and a January year as starting points you can change. It does not borrow another country's tax. You add your own rates under Settings, Tax.

Tax rules change. Check rates and filing requirements with your accountant; this page is not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

Which countries have a full tax pack?
India (GST), the United Kingdom (VAT), the European Union (VAT), the United States (sales tax), Australia (GST) and New Zealand (GST).
What happens if my country isn't listed?
Singapore, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Japan have single-rate packs. Any other country uses a neutral pack with a standard chart of accounts and no preset tax, so you configure your own rates.
Can I change my country later?
Country, currency, tax regime and financial-year start are locked once you record your first transaction, so that your books stay consistent. Choose them during setup.
What does choosing a country actually change?
Currency, tax regime and default rates, the chart of accounts and its tax accounts, the financial-year start and the timezone.
