Fixed asset register and depreciation in Kanakku

An asset register that knows the numbers

Record cost, salvage value and useful life in months for each asset, with its acquisition date, accumulated depreciation and status all maintained as you depreciate it.

  • Name, cost, salvage value and useful life in months
  • Acquisition date, accumulated depreciation and last-depreciated date
  • Status: active, disposed or fully depreciated
  • Optional auto-post on acquisition: Dr fixed asset / Cr bank

Depreciation that posts itself

Trigger a depreciation run and Kanakku posts the expense and accumulated-depreciation entries, then updates the asset. Each run is keyed to a period so it can't double-post.

  • Manual run posts Dr depreciation expense / Cr accumulated depreciation
  • Each run is idempotent per period key — safe to retry
  • Updates accumulated depreciation and last-depreciated date
  • Straight-line method (declining-balance not implemented)

What you get

Straight-line method

Depreciation spreads cost less salvage evenly over the useful life in months.

Auto-posted runs

A run writes the depreciation expense and accumulated-depreciation entries for you.

Idempotent by period

Period keys make runs safe to repeat without double-counting.

Acquisition posting

Optionally post the purchase as Dr fixed asset / Cr bank when you register it.

Frequently asked questions

Which depreciation methods are supported?
Straight-line, spreading cost less salvage over the useful life. Declining-balance is not implemented.
Does depreciation post to my accounts?
Yes. Each run posts a debit to depreciation expense and a credit to accumulated depreciation, then updates the asset.
Are depreciation runs safe to repeat?
Yes. Runs are triggered manually and keyed to a period, so re-running the same period won't double-post.
Does Kanakku handle asset disposal proceeds?
Assets can be marked disposed, but disposal proceeds and the resulting gain or loss are not tracked.
